The Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Service (certified program) has been designed to provide students with a tertiary-level education, delivered by SPASA’s training division, the Institute of Research and Learning (IRLearning).
The Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Service has been assessed by the New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) to be equivalent to a Level 4 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF) as a micro-credential.
This certificate gives students a solid foundation in what is required to work in the swimming pool and spa service sector and comprises of 18 Units of Competency delivered in five Clusters:

NZBSBWOR301 – Organise personal work priorities and development
NZCPPCMN3005 – Complete client documentation
NZCPPSPS3012 – Access and apply information from swimming pool and spa technical manuals
NZCPPSPS3003 – Maintain swimming pools and spas
NZCPPSPS3004 – Maintain swimming pool and spa water circulation and filtration systems
NZCPPSPS3005 – Maintain swimming pool and spa dosing systems
NZCPPSPS3006 – Maintain swimming pool and spa cleaning vacuum systems
NZCPPSPS3007 – Maintain swimming pool and spa heating systems
NZCPPSPS3002 – Perform basic swimming pool and spa measurements and calculations
NZSISCAQU001 – Test pool water quality
NZSISCAQU004 – Develop and implement pool water maintenance procedures
NZCPCCWHS2001 – Apply WHS requirements, policies and procedures in the construction industry
NZCPPDSM3009 – Maintain workplace safety in the property industry
NZCPPSPS3001 – Handle, transport and store swimming pool and spa chemicals safely
The Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Service (Micro-credential) will be assessed in the following ways:
Questions and Answers: Students will need to study and respond to specific questions as part of their assessments.
Practical Tasks: Practical tasks will require students to research and respond to real-life and/or simulated scenarios.
Workplace Observations: Experienced workplace supervisors will be required to validate the student’s experience.

The Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Service (Micro-credential) is available online with easy-to-access resources that allow you to undertake learning in your own time, at your own pace, in your own space.
On successful completion of the Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Service (Micro-credential), students will receive an IRLearning Certificate with the following approved New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) statement:
“The New Zealand Qualifications Authority (NZQA) has evaluated the Certificate in Swimming Pool & Spa Service (Micro-credential) delivered by the Institute of Research and Learning (IRLearning) and has assessed it to be equivalent to 38 credits (380 notional learning hours) at Level 4 on the New Zealand Qualifications Framework (NZQF)”.
