This qualification provides the individual with the competencies required to routinely maintain swimming pools and spas in domestic, commercial and public settings.

This is a qualification for people working in the swimming pool and spa service sector. It applies to pool and spa technicians in the field who apply analytic and problem-solving skills to treat water quality problems, as well as install, service and repair the key systems and components of domestic swimming pools and spas.

The CPC40820 Certificate IV in Swimming Pool and Spa Building reflects the vocational outcomes of individuals engaged in the construction and installation of swimming pools and spas across residential and commercial environments.

The qualification provides learners with a broad range of trade-related skills associated with in-ground and above-ground pools and spas, including structural works, hydraulic systems, finishing, and compliance activities. It also incorporates planning, coordination, and project management skills to support the application of technical knowledge in varied and sometimes complex construction environments.

Graduates may seek employment as swimming pool and spa builders, installers, or supervisors, either independently or as part of a construction team. Employment outcomes may include roles within specialised pool and spa construction businesses or the broader building and construction industry.

Entry to construction worksites requires completion of general construction induction training in accordance with the National Code of Practice for Induction Training for Construction Work. This is commonly achieved through completion of the unit CPCWHS1001 Prepare to work safely in the construction industry.

Licensing, regulatory, and certification requirements vary across Australian States and Territories. Learners are advised to consult the relevant regulatory authority to confirm any requirements that may apply to employment or occupational outcomes associated with this qualification.

To support targeted vocational outcomes and reflect industry practices, IRLearning offers structured elective groupings in the form of specialisation streams.
